Has screened ventilation holes near top. Air can also travel out the bottom sides. I left one collapsed honeycomb from the failed split in place to see what they would do with it. They have anchored it with burr comb to the adjacent combs and are chewing themselves beespace along the edges. Makes inspections tricky.
